Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

This Wednesday will be our last of five gatherings of “The Table” on Wednesday evening. The Table is a dinner church gathering where we share a meal, share a Jesus story, and offer up our prayer requests. It is a 50-minute gathering to open a new door to our church to the community.

Our goal over these five weeks has been clear. Is God calling enough people in the FFMC family along with others to sustain this work on a weekly basis going forward? While it might be easier to look at how many people are coming, what really matters now is if God is calling our church to continue it.

Following Easter, I’ll be meeting with our Lead Team for The Table to ask that very question. I’d like you to be in prayer for those who are discerning the Spirit’s leading for The Table. We have seen some good fruit along with some interesting and unexpected opportunities. May God lead us.

The Table, along with Friday Night Fellowship, are efforts to open a new door of our church to our community. Sunday Worship is important but can be intimidating for people looking for hope and love in their lives. Places like The Table have an easier entry point. Regardless of the future The Table has, we are committed to reaching new people and engaging them with experience of the Lord Jesus Christ. If The Table is not the best answer, we know God will lead us to a new one.

What I hope you are hearing from me here is hopeful and clear. God is calling us to be more engaged in our community and to invest in the lives of people. We are going to try lots of things and lean into where the Lord is leading us.

I also hope everyone at FFMC is praying about finding their place in that calling. I so appreciate the many who serve in so many settings, including these new opportunities. We all should be praying about how we are engaging in God’s call to reach people with the love of Christ. Join me in praying for our church’s life and future the way God wants it to unfold.
