Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

Sunday’s sermon will be about two people from the Bible you may have not heard of before: Jochebed and Amram. Who?
They are instrumental in, what is perhaps, the most critical story of the Jewish people aside from the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Without their faithful act, there would be no story of the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, no stories of the ten commandments, and no stories of the promised land.
Jochebed and Amram are the parents of Moses.
We are unfamiliar with their names since they are not mentioned by name in the birth story of Moses. They are mentioned later in scripture. (Exodus 6:18, Numbers 3:19, 37, and 1 Chronicles) Their story shines brightly in the Book of Hebrews 11:23 where it speaks of Moses’ parents and how “when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents…”
The small acts of faith, especially in defiance of power, often become the pivotal moments where God moves in power in grace. Keeping with this same truth, did you know that Rahab is the great-grandmother of King David? (Ruth is his grandmother.) David’s lineage has both Canaanite and Moabite blood! All these women proved to be critical parts of God’s story unfolding in the Bible.
May we not underestimate the small acts of faithful obedience we practice each day. No matter the outward significance of these acts, God is working and moving in ways we cannot see. I hope we follow the example of these great biblical leaders. Even when we don’t know their names, they too play a part in God’s story. So do we.
Grace to You All,
