Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

The Leadership Team at FFMC formed a Facility Development Task Force earlier this year. Its charter was to investigate and make recommendations to the Leadership Team and the congregation about the potential development of our church’s campus.

Our Task Force began its work knowing that many of the important systems of our church’s buildings are intertwined. Heating, electrical, and other mechanical systems were centrally located in the four-story Wilson Building and then distributed to the Sanctuary and the Fine Center. What would happen to the Sanctuary and the Fine Center if the Wilson Building were no longer there?

Why not just leave the Wilson Building where it is? The Wilson Building in nearly 80 years old with millions of dollars of deferred maintenance. While we could leave the building as it is, there are many systems past their lifespan. Should any one of these systems fail it would mean the immediate closure of the building and the North Queen Anne Childcare. The Leadership Team has decided that the Wilson Building was too costly to upgrade/remodel. We needed to envision new future for our campus without the Wilson Building.

In the late spring, the Task Force recommended to the Leadership Team that an assessment of the Wilson Building and Sanctuary be conducted to answer this question: what would happen to the Sanctuary and the Fine Center if the Wilson Building were no longer there? We now have the assessment of the Sanctuary and want to share it with you. Removing the Wilson Building would likely trigger a full code upgrade of the Sanctuary which was built in the 1950’s. Can we extend the life of the Sanctuary for the next generation of FFMC?

You can download a quick summary of the assessment report below

The Task Force will be making an important presentation about this report at the Town Hall Meeting this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the Upper Fine Center. Please do take time to read the summary document. Continue to pray for the Leadership Team and the Task Force as they continue in the diligent work of “counting the costs”

(Luke 14:28-30) to ensure FFMC has a bright and hopeful future in the Lord’s service.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday.
