Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

Today is the day. Election Day.

Three weeks ago I shared a bit about our worship series, “Worthy: The Value of Jesus” and how this series would afford time and space to hold onto Jesus during this election season. You may have noticed that this series continues through November which is weeks after the election. This was intentional.

The results of our election may not be known for days or weeks, as it was in 2020. Our worship series spans election day so that we have some time and space to process all that has happened.

Scripture encourages us to pray for all of our civil leaders. (1 Timothy 2:2 and others.) May we do so today and the days which follow. Polls show that many Americans are fearful of political violence or other acts, which only serves to raise tension. May we be people of peace and grace in the midst of whatever may happen.

Let’s center our hearts on Jesus, the Name above every name, as we move through today and the days ahead. This is precisely the time when we need to bear the peculiar mark of love and grace. People may ask why we are so grounded and centered in this time. Let us all, then, respond with the Name of Jesus as our reason.

I’ll leave you once again with John Wesley’s advice from his journal on October 6, 1774:
“I met those of our society who had votes in the ensuing election, and advised them,
1. To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy;
2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against; and
3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.”

Grace to You All,

Pastor Craig Brown
