Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update
The season of Lent begins tomorrow (Wednesday) with Ash Wednesday worship at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Lent begins our 40-day journey to Easter with moments for prayer, reflection, and repentance.
The tradition of keeping Lent dates back centuries with varied practices across Christian tradition. Christians might fast or take on a discipline. Lent is marked by some with less celebration in worship, refraining from the use of “hallelujah,” or other triumphant images. For Free Methodists, this is a time to follow Jesus’ direction for prayer and fasting as we consider the cross of Jesus.
Sunday begins a new worship series through this Lenten season. Our series is called “Believe” and will focus on how we discover faith and hope in Jesus. Each week we will address some of the hard issues we face in life and how we are to hold them with our belief in Christ.
March 9 – Facing Temptation
March 16 – Facing Influence
March 23 – Facing Blame
March 30 – Facing Anger
April 6 – Facing Greed
April 13 – Facing Expectations
2025 is also the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed. We will be sharing in the creed each Sunday during this series. It is a way of affirming how Jesus faced the same things we do, but has overcome them all.
Finally, we will be offering a weekly video devotional you can share right from your phone, tablet, or computer. There will be time for scripture, prayer, and reflection each Wednesday. Watch for it next week in your email, our YouTube channel, or in our app.
I look forward to the Lenten journey with you.
Grace to You All,
Pastor Craig Brown
