Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

Next week is the holiest of weeks in the Christian year, hence, the name Holy Week. The entire Christian Year, beginning with Advent, is a teaching tool. Every year, we repeat the story of Jesus’ birth, life, death, resurrection, and his ascension. In addition, we celebrate the birth of the church through Pentecost and its mission to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus.

Holy Week is the only time of the year where the sequence of events is repeated in real time as they happened so many years ago. Palm Sunday is the Sunday we remember Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem on the Sunday before his death. Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus’s gathering with the disciples for that last supper on that fateful Thursday evening after Palm Sunday. Good Friday is a sober remembrance of Jesus’ death on the cross after the Passover feast with the disciples that Thursday. Easter Sunday, of course, is the Sunday exactly eight days after Palm Sunday.

We repeat this cycle year after year with reverence for the cosmic importance of each of these events. For Christians the world pivots on these events. Salvation itself rests on Jesus’ victorious resurrection over death.

I encourage you to walk with Jesus this year during Holy Week.

• Palm Sunday Worship is March 29 at 10:00 a.m. where we, too, will shout our Hosannas.
• Maundy Thursday Night of Worship is April 2 at 7:00 p.m. as we remember the last supper and the foot washing.
• Good Friday is observed through the Stations of the Cross which are open in the Upper Fine Center on both Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3.
• Easter Sunday Worship is April 5 at 10:00 a.m. with joy and hope for Jesus’ victory over death.

I know getting to the FFMC campus mid-week can be a challenge. I hope and pray we will all make the sacrifice to share in this important time to remember and celebrate all that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
