Pastor’s eNote: Weekly Update

Greetings to you all in the Name of Jesus, the Living Lord.

Being a member of an organization or group has changed over the years. Membership in certain civic groups or other organizations was once highly prized. While I lived in San Diego, I was a member of one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in the United States. They, like many places which valued membership, discovered that being a “member” has less value today. Costco seems like a membership that matters to most today!

FFMC is a church which has membership. We do not mean membership to imply any special privilege or status. Members at FFMC do not get to go first in the potluck line or get access to our private lounge. (By the way, there is no private lounge!) Membership at FFMC is more about a commitment to community. Those who attend our church are a mixture of members and attenders. Our members are committed to FFMC at a deep level. They are invited to commit to the church with their gifts of service, time, and financial resources. They are dedicated to making FFMC the center of their life of faith and share a commitment to help the church thrive. In other words, membership at FFMC is a sacrificial commitment.

I’ll be leading a New Member Class at FFMC for those looking to go deeper in their commitment to our community. We will meet following worship on Sunday, June 9. Our time together will include exploring FFMC’s ministry and work as well as our Free Methodist tradition. Lunch will be included. If you’d like to come and hear more, please RSVP at ffmc.org/events

Before our New Member Class, we will be celebrating baptisms at FFMC. If you would like to know more about being baptized, please let me or Pastor Camille know (ffmc.org/events)

May and June are filled with some exciting and inspirational events at FFMC. I invite all of us to hold our church in prayer during these hopeful days.

Grace to You All,

Pastor Craig Brown
